Jumpstart is a national early education organization that helps children from low-income neighborhoods develop the language and literacy skills they need to be successful in kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late. Since 1993, Jumpstart has trained more than 20,000 college students and community volunteers to deliver its program to more than 90,000 preschool children nationwide. The program provides a successful model of well-structured, university-community tutoring partnerships.

CCE was awarded an annual grant to implement Jumpstart and support tutoring programs across campus. In addition, this partnership provides Northwestern students (who may participate as volunteers or as a work study job) with opportunities to earn AmeriCorps education grants for each completed year of service.
