Mentor A Fellow

Each of our fellows has a mentor for the duration of their fellowship that guides and advises them in their first year on the job. Mentors offer young alumni a great resource through friendship, career guidance, networking, or just as someone to talk to occasionally. We work carefully to match the interests of our fellows with those of their mentor, and every fellow-mentor relationship can be different. Mentoring Guidelines

Help Recruit Organizations

NUPIP is looking for organizations whose missions are dedicated to systemic social change. Placements can be in the not-for-profit, for-profit and government sectors, and span a range of topic areas. See our list of past and present host organizations for a sense of the organizations that have participated in the program up to now.
Host Organizations

Placement organizations are responsible for paying the entirety of the fellow's salary for the year. This encourages the organization to commit to giving the fellow meaningful responsibilities and an experience that will truly benefit both parties.

You may be connected to these organizations in many ways:

• On staff at a nonprofit?
• Serve on the board for a nonprofit?
• Work in local, state or federal government?
• Volunteer with a nonprofit?
• Other?

We know that NU alumni are involved in and care deeply about their communities. Consider giving young alumni a chance to learn from and give back to your community, and give those organizations a chance to make an impact on a life.

Communications (website, newsletter, general publicity)

NUPIP is still new and is growing rapidly. We are trying to get the word out about our organization and the opportunities that it affords to students, organizations, alumni, and the society as a whole. If you have communications or technology skills, please let us know. We are always looking for new ways to improve our website or newsletter, and searching for other publications, media outlets, and media networks that can help us get our name out into the community.

Host Events for Fellows

One of the most important parts of a fellow's year with NUPIP is the community that he or she forms with other fellows, mentors and alumni. We encourage alumni in the area to help build this community by hosting or organizing events that expose fellows to opportunities and to other alumni in the area.

Examples of events include:

• Hosting a dinner at the house of an alum
• Meeting for happy hour
• Visiting a museum
• Going to a baseball game
• Exploring one of Chicago's many neighborhoods
• And more...
