On Tuesday, January 17th, Northwestern will host a student-alumni networking event focused on ways students can build meaningful lives and successful careers for themselves, based on any field of study.

The CIVICALLY ENGAGED ALUMNI ROUNDTABLES event will feature visiting alumni representing eight different fields, but all connected by a commitment to integrating social responsibility into their careers and personal lives.

The event will begin in the Big Ten Room in the Norris University Center at 4:30pm with a brief introduction by Professor Dan Lewis, director of the Center for Civic Engagement, followed by two 25-minute roundtable discussions with alumni in different interest areas. The event will conclude with a reception at 6pm.

The alumni roundtable discussions will be organized around the following themes, and each student will be able to select two to attend:

  • Arts / Culture
  • Education / Youth
  • Science / Technology
  • Global / International Work
  • Media / Communication
  • Health / Medicine
  • Law / Policy / Government
  • Business / Management

The roundtable format was organized this year in response to student interest in more personal interactions with visiting alumni. Over 16 inspiring alumni will return to campus for the event. Panelists include alumni involved with organizations like:

  • Peace Corps
  • Chicago Public Radio
  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Mercy Home for Boys and Girls
  • Harvard Business School
  • and other companies, institutions, and organizations committed to serving the public good

The event is free and open to the entire Northwestern community, but space is limited. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page to register for the event.

Don't forget to check out other Martin Luther King Celebration events. And remember to visit the Martin Luther King Public Interest Job Fair on Tuesday, January 10th (12noon - 4pm) in the Norris Center Louis Room!

Civically Engaged Alumni Roundtables is hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement and the Office of International Program Development, in collaboration with the Center for Leadership, the Northwestern Alumni Association, University Career Services, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Programming Committee.
